Harold Hamilton Youngblood

Harold Hamilton Youngblood, known to most since the '40s as "Spud" or Uncle Spud, age 86, of Nokesville, Va., died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008 at Prince William Hospital, Manassas, Va.

Mr. Youngblood was born March 30, 1922, in Augusta, Ga., son of the late Dr. Leslie Lawson and Minnie Lee Hamilton Youngblood. He earned a B.S. in electrical engineering from Georgia Tech on Oct. 25, 1943, and worked at NACA/NASA in Hampton, Va., (where he met his wife) from 1943 until retiring in 1975. After moving from Hampton in 1988, they built a house on his wife's ancestral farm near Greenwich, Va.

He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Earline Squires Youngblood, in 2003, and two brothers, Cdr. Leslie Lawson Youngblood Jr. and Ralph Pierce Youngblood.

Survivors include one son, Kim Alyn Youngblood; one daughter, Terry Annette Mauller and husband Ralph "Corky" Mauller and their two daughters, Lindsay and Kelly.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center St., Manassas. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at Greenwich Presbyterian Church, 15305 Vint Hill Road, Nokesville, with Pastor Donald M. Meeks officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
