After rocky road, work continues at Fauquier Community Farm

When Fauquier Community Action Committee Executive Director Tom Benjamin introduced the community farm he hoped to develop to feed the county's needy at an expanded, and increasingly in-demand food bank, there was no shortage of support.

Using land leased from the county and a cadre of volunteers to produce acres of fresh, healthful fruits and vegetables for those who get them infrequently ? what's not to like?

Benjamin’s vision was to use innovative, green methods for growing bountiful crops, and to involve school children, community and church groups, and any number of other volunteers in the process, teaching them about farming along the way. That one could volunteer and help others while also learning a little to help themselves seemed a wonderful proposition.

Like any project of this magnitude, there have been victories and setbacks.
