New book is deliciously informative guide for 'Gourmet Getaways'

Warrenton author Joe David did it all in the name of research.

For his latest book, “Gourmet Getaways,” David traveled the United States, meeting some of the country’s top chefs, observing the cooking schools that they operate, and tasting their delicacies. From the stories he shares from his journey, it’s clear that this life-long foodie suffered mercilessly through the experience. Well, maybe it wasn't so bad.

To be released April 1, the resulting book introduces readers to more than 50 culinary programs around the country. Divided by region, the book explores not only the chefs who run these schools, but also their food philosophies.

What impressed me was that they're all striving to better themselves in terms of their profession,” David said of the chefs he met.

Just shy of 300 pages, “Gourmet Getaways” also provides practical and logistical information about its destinations, allowing travelers to pick the trip that works best for them. Alongside recipes and kitchen tips from the country’s leading chefs, it includes interesting travel information for each region, offering a sense of place to a reader unfamiliar with the territory.
