Police and Court Briefs
Guilty Pleas Entered in Murder-for-Hire CaseA former Fauquier County woman accused of trying to have her ex-boy friend and his wife killed pleaded guilty March 5 to two counts of attempted kill-for-hire/capital murder.
Court records show Caren Taylor Pressley Brown entered the pleas the day her trial was scheduled to begin in Williamsburg/James City County Circuit Court.
Brown was arrested last Aug. 1 after she allegedly gave an undercover Virginia State Police agent a $2,000 down payment to kill her ex-boyfriend and his wife.
Brown also provided the agent — who was posing as a hit man — the couple's address, directions to their home and pictures of them, according to court records.
Brown's sentencing hearing is now scheduled for May 18.
Lowery Sentenced in Rape Case
A Fauquier County Circuit Court judge reportedly sentenced Timothy Scott Lowery, 20, of Linden, to 80 years in prison on numerous charges Feb. 23.
Lowery's sentence included 35 years for rape, 20 years for burglary, five years for grand larceny, 20 years for abduction and 20 years for burglary. All charges will run consecutively except for the robbery charge, which was set to run concurrently.
The court suspended half the sentence with the condition that Lowery will be on supervised probation for the rest of his life.
The charges stemmed from an incident in the northern end of the county in September 2008. Maj. Paul Mercer of the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a report of a rape and burglary Sept. 10. The victim reported being attacked by assailants who were hiding in her residence late in the evening, Mercer added.
Kenneth Roland Jenkins II, who was also arrested in connection with the incident faces multiple charges including rape, burglary and robbery. His next appearance in Fauquier County Circuit Court is scheduled for 1 p.m. March 23.
Arrests Made in Remington Burglary
Maj. Paul Mercer of the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office said two people were arrested Feb. 26 in connection with a recent burglary at the R and H Grocery in Remington.
The incident reportedly occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. Feb. 21, when the perpetrators gained entry and triggered the alarm system. The video surveillance system captured images of two masked people dropping through the store ceiling, Mercer said. They were also seen taking money and merchandise before fleeing.
Patrol deputies, including a K-9 handler came to the scene, where they found evidence allegedly dropped by the suspects. During the ensuing investigation, Mercer said, police garnered information which led to the identification of several suspects, including a juvenile.
Authorities obtained arrest warrants for the adults. Larry Edward Dawson, 19, and Donna Leann Morrison, 20, both of Remington, were taken into custody on the warrants charging them with burglary and grand larceny.
During the investigation, police learned that Dawson and Morrison were also wanted for multiple felony burglary and drug charges in Fredericksburg, Mercer said.
Dawson and Morrison were each held on $100,000 bond. Police said petitions will be obtained for the juvenile suspect.
Two Charged With Grand Larceny
Warrenton police reportedly charged two people with grand larceny in separate incidents last week.
Police Chief Connie Novak said Michael Fletcher, 37, of Front Royal, was charged with the offense after he attempted to leave Sears at approximately 8 p.m. March 5. Someone spotted him trying to take two tool box kits out of the store without paying, the chief explained.
Officers also served Fletcher with an outstanding warrant from Shenandoah County for failing to obey a court order.
Fletcher, who was allegedly intoxicated when he was taken into custody, was held at the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center without bond.
Elizabeth Mitchell, 18, of no fixed address, was charged with the offense March 8. Mitchell was caught while trying to steal a dirt bike from a home on Fishback Court at approximately 1 a.m., Novak said.
Suspect in Armed Robbery Sought
Police said they are seeking the suspect in an armed robbery of the 7-11 in Marshall which occurred March 5.
Maj. Paul Mercer of the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office said the incident occurred shortly after midnight. The unknown white male was armed with a knife when he came into the store on West Main Street, the major said. After demanding cigarettes, the man allegedly “jumped the counter” and stole several packs of cigarettes by placing them in a black trash bag.
He is described as approximately 6-feet tall with a thin build. He was reportedly wearing a black knit cap, red bandanna covering his face, black dress shirt with white stripes, dark tie, dark pants and dark shoes.
The subject fled the area on foot, Mercer said.
