Seminar seeks landowners for farming partnerships

The Local Food Project at Airlie and the Piedmont Environmental Council will present a two-session course on creative farm partnerships for landowners beginning Wednesday, March 11.

According to Pablo Elliott, one of the course facilitators, “Hosting the Small Farm Dream” is designed to help landowners explore different approaches to working with small farmers.

We thought that a 'Hosting the Small Farm Dream' course, for landowners of acreages big and small, would make an excellent addition to our 'Exploring the Small Farm Dream' offering for aspiring farmers,” Elliott said.

The idea is to have two courses, one for landowners, one for farmers, and provide occasional reunions bringing together both groups each year. This way, we create a pool of folks who are interested in farming or seeing food production happen on their land, and have gone through an initial evaluative process of their ideas. The outcome of this three-pronged approach will hopefully be an informed and energized network that will assist the development and growth of new farm projects in the region.”
