Man Armed With Meat Cleaver Arrested

Francis D. Reid Jr., 59. of The Plains, was reportedly arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and being drunk in public June 20.

Lt. Colonel Paul Mercer of the Fauquier County Sheriff's office said deputies went to The Plains shortly after 8 p.m for a report of an intoxicated person carrying a meat cleaver. After searching the town they found Reid and took him into custody, Mercer said.


Nokesville Man Charged With Brandishing a Firearm

Steven Lewis, 22, of Nokesville, was arrested and charged with brandishing a firearm June 20.

According to Warrenton Police Chief Connie Novak, the arrest stemmed from an incident in which neighbors on Aviary Street reported a black male was "waving a gun around threatening to shoot."

People inside the building where Lewis had reportedly gone were ordered outside. Police recovered a .45 Ruger and Lewis was taken into custody, Novak said.


Two Charged With DUI

Warrenton Police reportedly arrested and charged two people with DUI after separate traffic stops June 20 and June 21.

Police Chief Connie Novak said an officer observed a Chevy Cobalt being driven erratically at approximately 3:30 a.m. Saturday. The officer executed a traffic stop on Blackwell Road and identified the driver as William Simmons, 21, of Manassas. Simmons failed several preliminary tests and was taken into custody, Novak said.

In the second case, an officer saw someone driving strangely at approximately 1:14 a.m. Sunday. The officer stopped the Mercedes Benz near Highland School and identified the driver as Rachel Martin, 37, of Middleburg. Martin allegedly failed some of the preliminary tests and was taken into custody.

Fraud Reported

Two cases of fraud reported to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office last week remain under investigation.

According to police records, the details are as follows:

  • June 16, A caller from the 5700 block of Greenview Lane in Warrenton reported a fraudulent incident in which payment was not received for work that had been done. The estimated loss in the case is $8,000.

June 19, A complainant from the 4500 block of McKenzie Court in Warrenton reported check fraud. The estimated loss is $750.


Television, Video Games Stolen

The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office received a report of a larceny June 18.

According to police records, someone from the 9100 block of Bastable Mill Road in Catlett reported the theft of a television, X-box and miscellaneous games. The estimated loss in the case was $750 and the investigation is ongoing.


Failure To Yield Charged

A Marshall man was charged with failure to yield the right of way after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident June 19, police said.

According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, the wreck happened in the area of John S. Mosby Highway (U.S. 50) and Trappe Road at approximately 6:31 p.m.

William Michael Simpson, 36, was driving a 1997 Honda Civic when he tried to make a left turn off Trappe Road. As he did, he allegedly pulled into the path of an oncoming 2005 Suzuki driven by Tracia Maria Riley, 45, of Winchester.

Neither driver had visible injuries but both complained of pain or momentary loss of consciousness. Neither was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Improper Backing Charged

Police said Troy Douglas Marshall II, 27, of Catlett, was charged with improper backing after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident June 15.

A Fauquier County deputy's report indicates the crash happened in the area of Balls Mill Road and Old Marsh Road at approximately 4 p.m.

Marshall was driving a 2004 Ford westbound when he passed a turn he was going to make. Marshall allegedly put his vehicle in reverse while it was still in the roadway and backed into a 2008 Nissan Maxima driven by Roy Mason Edmonds Jr., 36, of Midland. The Maxima was idling behind Marshall's vehicle at the time, according to the report.

Neither driver was visibly hurt although both complained of pain or momentary loss of consciousness. Neither one was transported to the hospital by EMS personnel.
