Wall Up, Roof On Goldvein Habitat House
On Saturday, a small group of women wielding hammers and power tools descended on Renita Poole's property in Goldvein.
By late morning, the band of volunteers from the Fauquier chapter of Habitat for Humanity's Women Build group finished installing the windows on Poole's new house. They planned to spend the afternoon installing the doors.
As usual, Poole was there to help.
"I am here every Wednesday and Saturday when the volunteers [are working]," she said. "I want to have a hands-on approach with everything. I ask so many questions because I've never done anything like this before."
Due to weather delays, work on Poole's house did not begin until June 24. As of Saturday, the floor system, exterior walls, interior framing and roof were all in place.
If all goes as planned, the three bedroom, two bathroom house, which will be a tad over 1,000 square feet, will be finished in six to eight weeks.
"We knew this [project] was happening, and we were told we could have a build day here," said Mollie Bednarowski, who co-chairs the group with Krista Coyner.
The women's group will also work on the houses in the Sterling Court project in Warrenton, she said.
Although it's relatively new — Women Build officially became part of the Fauquier chapter of Habitat for Humanity in January 2008 — there are plenty of willing participants.
