Police And Court Briefs
Former Post Master SentencedJudith A. Simpson, the former Bealeton post master who was convicted of two misdemeanor counts of obtaining less than $200 by false pretenses, was sentenced June 22 in Fauquier County Circuit Court.
According to court records, Simpson was sentenced to 12 months in jail on each count, but each term was suspended in its entirety. Simpson must now serve a total of 12 months unsupervised probation.
She was originally indicted on two felony counts of obtaining money (more than $200) by false pretenses in connection with offenses committed in September 2007.
However, the charges were reduced as part of a plea agreement.
Commercial Burglary Reported
The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office received a report of a commercial burglary June 29.
According to a police, report, someone from the 4100 block of Frost Street, Marshall, reported the burglary with the theft of a cash register and candy. A window was also damaged. The estimated loss in the case is $350.
Property Damage Reported
Damage to a backhoe and fence was reported to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office June 29.
A police report indicates someone from the 10300 block of Willow Hill Road near Delaplane reported the incident. The estimated loss in the case is $600.
Two Charged With DUI
Warrenton Police arrested and charged two people with DUI over the holiday weekend.
Police Chief Connie Novak said both incidents occurred in the early morning hours of July 4.
At approximately 1:52 a.m., an officer observed a 2002 Lexus being driven erratically on Broadview Avenue. During the ensuing traffic stop, the officer identified the driver as Joseph Estelle, 21, of Bristow. Estelle allegedly failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.
The second incident occurred at approximately 4:12 a.m., when an officer saw a 1999 Toyota Camry hit the curb on Broadview Avenue near Piedmont Auto Sales. The officer conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Andrew Alford, 21, of Warrenton. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.
Nobody Injured in House Fire
No one was hurt in a house fire July 5, police said.
The incident reportedly occurred in the 5500 block of Jaclyn Drive near Warrenton. Police said used fireworks that were placed in a trash can started the blaze. The fire caused approximately $25,000 in damages.
ATV Recovered
An ATV reported stolen July 5 has been recovered, police said.
According to a police report, someone from the 8200 block of Falcon Glen Road near Warrenton reported the ATV stolen. It is worth approximately $5,000.
Passenger Hurt in Car Crash
Police said a juvenile riding in a 1988 Chevrolet Silverado sustained minor injuries when the vehicle crashed June 29.
According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, the wreck happened in the area of Courtneys Corner Road and South River Road at approximately 3 p.m.
Rosslyn Arethia Martinez, 38, of Sumerduck, was driving the Silverado when she tried to make a right on to South River Road. She was going too fast when she did so and hit the bank, causing approximately $1,000 in damages to the truck, police said.
Martinez did not have any visible signs of injury, but complained of pain or loss of consciousness, according to the report. Neither she nor the juvenile were transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Two-Car Crash Results in Minor Injuries
No one was seriously hurt in a two-car collision July 4, police said.
According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, the crash happened at the intersection of U.S. 17 (Winchester Road) and Enon Church Road at approximately 10:36 p.m.
Mena Wahezi, 25, of Frederick, Md., was driving a 2002 Ford Taurus when she hit a 2006 Ford Explorer driven by Hemeni Pravin Naik, 29, of Centreville. Wahezi was looking at directions on her GPS and failed to obey directions given by a law enforcement officer who was directing traffic when the collision occurred, according to the report.
Naik was not visibly hurt, but complained of pain or momentary loss of consciousness. She was not transported to the hospital by EMS personnel.
