Drivers Charged In Three Pursuits

Three motorists were reportedly arrested in connection with three pursuits June 25.

At approximately 5:20 p.m., Warrenton police officers saw a 1994 beige Toyota Camry make an illegal right turn onto East Lee Highway from Blackwell Road, Chief Connie Novak said. The officers attempted to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle sped away and turned down the ramp to the bypass, Novak added.

The Camry allegedly entered a state trooper's radar at 90 mph. The trooper stopped the vehicle in the area of East Lee Street and the Eastern Bypass ramp.

The driver was identified as Milton Roman Ramos Giron, 32 of Manassas. Warrenton police took him into custody on charges of speeding to elude and reckless driving, Novak said.

The trooper also issued two summonses, and Giron was reportedly held on $2,500 bond.

Another pursuit happened on I-66 at approximately 7:50 p.m. At that time, a Neon allegedly went through Trooper Aaron Stiltner's radar at 115 mph. The speed limit on I-66 is 65 mph.

The driver of the Neon, who was later identified as Michael Paul Edmister, 29, of Bealeton, allegedly began passing other vehicles on the right shoulder. He got off and then back on the highway, where he was finally stopped, according to Virginia State Police Sgt. Charlie Crummett.

Edmister was found to be under the influence of alcohol and charged with DUI, Crummett said. He was also charged with reckless driving by speed and felony eluding.

Trooper Dave Paschal was also on I-66 when a BMW went through his radar at 76 mph, Crummett said.

The motorist got off the highway and continued on Route 55. As Paschal followed with lights and sirens activated, the driver allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Route 55 and U.S. 17.

The motorist, who was identified as Daniel Wayne Verhoeven, 51, of Catlett, almost lost control of the vehicle, Crummett said. He was going approximately 125 mph at one time, Crummett added.

Verhoeven, who was finally stopped after he got back onto the highway, claimed he was having a panic attack, according to Crummett.

He was charged with driving with a suspended license, driving with altered Virginia license plates, and attempting to elude, Crummet said. He was also wanted in Fairfax County for failure to appear.
