Residential Burglary Reported

Fauquier County detectives are investigating a residential burglary reported to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office April 21.

Police records indicate a complainant from the 9100 block of Meetze Road reported the burglary with theft of a gold diamond tennis bracelet and gold diamond earrings. The estimated loss in the case is $1,300.

Windows, Plates Broken

The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office received two separate reports of damage to private property April 20 and April 26. The details included in police reports are as follows:

— April 20, A complainant from the 8600 block of Over the Dam Road in Warrenton reported China plates and a coffee pot damaged. The estimated loss in the case is $800.

— April 26, Someone from the 7000 block of Grays Mill Road, Warrenton, reported four windows broken. The estimated loss is $500.

Fraud Investigated

An alleged fraud reported to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office April 23 remains under investigation.

According to police records, someone from the 2700 block of Bull Run Mountain Road in The Plains reported the incident, which involved a contract to perform work. The estimated loss in the case is $6,500.


Failure to Control Vehicle Charged

A Virginia Beach man was reportedly charged with failing to maintain control of a motor vehicle after she was involved in a car crash on April 20.

According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, the wreck happened in the area of Lee Highway (U.S. 29) and Vint Hill Road at approximately 9:32 p.m.

Gladys Del Socorro Hernandez, 44, of Remington was driving a 2005 Toyota southbound on U.S. 29 when she stopped in the left turn lane. At the same time, George William Bartz, 20, drove his 2006 Jeep Cherokee into the turn lane.

Bartz began to slow down, then looked down in his SUV, according to the report. By the time he looked up it was too late, and he could not stop.

Neither driver appeared to be hurt, but both complained of pain, according to the report. Hernandez was transported to the hospital by EMS personnel.

One Charged in Crash

A Front Royal woman was charged with following too closely after she was involved in a motor vehicle accident April 22, police said.

A Fauquier County deputy's report indicates the wreck happened on U.S. 50 (John S. Mosby Highway) near Green Garden Road at approximately 4:49 p.m.

Both vehicles were entering the Upperville town limits, where the speed limit drops from 45 to 35 mph. Marcia Alene Petry, 45, who was driving a 2003 Ford Taurus, told the investigating deputy she looked down and rear-ended the other vehicle, according to the report.

The second driver, Karen Teresa Ellis, 51, of Winchester was driving a 2002 Volkswagen. She said the driver in front of her slowed down but did not stop and that she did the same thing when the accident happened, the report states.

Petry did not sustain any visible injuries, but complained of pain, while Ellis appeared to be hurt, police said. Ellis was transported to an area hospital by EMS personnel.
