Alleged Check Fraud Investigated

Two incidents of alleged check fraud reported to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office last week remain under investigation. According to police reports, the details are as follows:

? March 31, A caller from the 7300 block of Cedar Run Drive in Warrenton reported check fraud with an estimated loss of $800.

? April 1, Someone from the 6500 block of Pinewood Lane, Warrenton, reported check fraud with an estimated loss of $10,000.


Burglaries Reported

The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office received two reports of burglaries from Catlett Road in Midland April 2. A complainant from the 4100 block reported a burglary with a theft of copper pipe. The estimated loss is $3,623.

A caller from the 4400 block reported a burglary with the theft of tools, a 29-inch television, four stepladders and a 15,000 BTU air conditioner. The estimated loss is $1,800.


Thefts Investigated

Fauquier County detectives are investigating two larcenies reported to the Sheriff's Office last week. The details included in police reports are as follows:

? April 2, A caller from the 6700 block of Chestnut Oak Lane, Warrenton, reported the theft of jewelry, cash and bonds from a building. The estimated loss is $3,100.

? April 3, Someone from the 6400 block of Wilson Road, Marshall, reported the theft of a Besco farm tiller. The estimated loss is $2,000.


Robbery Suspect Apprehended

Raymond Lloyd Mifflin, 39, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with robbery and grand larceny April 5.

Warrenton Detective Tim Carter said the arrest stemmed from a robbery at the Broadview Chevron at approximately 7:21 a.m. The perpetrator, who was identified as Mifflin, stole approximately $200 in cash and fled toward Pizza Hut, Carter added.

Fauquier County deputies found Mifflin on Waterloo Street later, and charged him with resisting arrest and felony obstruction of justice.

Mifflin was being held at the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center early this week.

He is scheduled to appear in Fauquier County General District Court June 4.


Failure to Yield Charged

A Falls Church woman was charged with failing to yield the right of way after she was involved in a motor vehicle accident March 31, police said.

According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, the wreck happened at the intersection of U.S. 29 (Lee Highway) and Old Alexandria Turnpike.

Anna Gail Hauter, 18, of Falls Church was driving a 2008 Ford Ranger when she attempted to torn left onto U.S. 29 from Old Alexandria Turnpike. As she did so, she allegedly failed to yield to a 2000 Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by Jose Lucio Castro, 36, of Remington. Castro was traveling west on Lee Highway when the collision occurred.

Neither driver was injured, according to the report.

Driving Without License Cited

Police said a Dumfries woman was charged with driving without a license after she was involved in a motor vehicle accident April 2.

An accident report taken by a Fauquier County deputy indicates the wreck happened in the area of Dumfries Road and Greenwich Road at approximately 9:06 a.m.

Brittany Amaris Cail, 20, was driving a 2003 Mazda south on Dumfries Road when the right tires went off the road. Cail over corrected to the left, causing the vehicle to cross the road where it hit an embankment, according to the report. The vehicle went over the embankment and spun halfway around before coming to rest on its wheels in someone's front yard.

A passenger was injured but not transported to the hospital by EMS personnel, according to the report.


Possession of Marijuana, Reckless Driving Charged

Police said Patrick Lee Jewell Jr., of New Bern, N.C., was arrested May 5 and charged with possession of marijuana and reckless driving.

Virginia State Trooper Rob Marshall, who is assigned to the Area 12 Office in Warrenton, stopped a vehicle on U.S. 29 at Meetze Road after he observed it going 78 mph in a 55 mph zone, police said.

A preliminary investigation determined Jewell was wanted on outstanding warrants from North Carolina for felonious assault, police said. Marshall later found Jewell to be in possession of marijuana.

Jewell was reportedly held on fugitive warrants out of North Carolina.

He is scheduled to appear in Fauquier County General District Court May 18.
