Deputies Bust Marshall Drug Factory
Members of the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit and Blue Ridge Narcotics Task Force seized 109 marijuana plants from a Marshall residence on Monday.
No arrests have been made.
Each plant is expected to yield one to two pounds of marijuana. Taken together, the plants have an estimated street value of more than $100,000.
The seizure stemmed from an investigation that began when deputies went to the residence to serve an arrest warrant on Sunday.
One deputy allegedly smelled marijuana from the front porch of the residence. He also observed a “bong”-style smoking device on the living room floor and and what appeared to be loose marijuana on a television stand in the living room.
As part of the ensuing investigation, deputies learned that was just the tip of the iceberg.
Two deputies observed “marijuana plants in various stages of growth under lighting equipment” — in other words, a “marijuana manufacturing operation” in a bedroom.
Early Monday morning, a Fauquier County detective assigned to the task force went back with a search warrant for the house and all outbuildings on the property.
In addition to marijuana, police were looking for paper and electronic documents detailing the operation.
The investigation is ongoing.
