Police and court briefs
Marshall man charged with grand larcenyAndrew W. Sargent, 19, of Marshall was arrested and charged with grand larceny on Oct. 14, police said.
Maj. Paul Mercer of the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office said Sargent was arrested after someone from the 10100 block of Clarkes Road in Bealeton reported the theft of tires. The estimated loss in the case was $700.
Larcenies reported
The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office received four reports of larcenies Oct. 15-18. The details included in police reports are as follows:
— Oct. 15, someone from the 7000 block of Justin Court East in Remington reported the theft of a Play Station 3 and controllers; a Play Station video; Blue Ray DVD movies; and an HDMI cable. The estimated loss is $780.
— Oct. 15, someone from the 6300 block of Airlie Road in Warrenton reported the theft of a Garmen 330 GPS; a Sigma camera lens; and a Canon 550 camera flash and battery pack from a motor vehicle. The estimated loss is $1,400.
— Oct. 16, someone came to the Sheriff's Office to report a stolen check. The estimated loss is $1,828.98 and the investigation is ongoing.
— Oct. 18, a complainant from the 5300 block of Ritchie Road in Midland reported a Woods RM990 pull behind mower stolen. The estimated loss is $2,500.
Fraud and embezzlement investigated
Fauquier County detectives are investigating two reports of fraud and embezzlement made to the Sheriff's Office last week.
According to police records, someone from the 9200 block of Tournament Drive in Warrenton reported credit card fraud with an estimated loss of $787.50 on Oct. 16.
The next day, a complainant from the 5000 block of Lee Highway in Warrenton reported embezzlement. The estimated loss in the case is $954.21.
Destruction of property reported
The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office received two reports of property damage Oct. 16-18. The details included in police reports are as follows:
— Oct. 16, a caller from the 14200 block of Warrenton Road in Goldvein reported damaged windows with an estimated loss of $1,000.
— Oct. 18, a caller from the 6400 block of Georgetown Road in Broad Run reported damage to a fence, support pole and direction signs, with an estimated loss of $2,000.
Tractor trailer wrecks on I-66
No one was hurt in a tractor-trailer wreck on I-66 Oct. 17, police said.
According to Virginia State Police Sgt. Charlie Crummett of the Area 12 Office in Warrenton, the accident happened on the eastbound side of the highway near the merge with U.S. 17 at approximately 10:45 p.m.
Clide Nebraska Fisher, 48, of Culpeper, was reportedly driving a 1999 Freightliner tractor-trailer in the right lane when another vehicle merged onto the highway from U.S. 17. in front of him. Crummett said the other vehicle was going approximately 55 mph, while Fisher was going approximately 65 mph.
Fisher swerved to avoid the other vehicle, which cut him off, Crummett said. The tractor-trailer went into the median where it landed on its side, the sergeant added. The load of lumber became dislodged and wound up spilling into the median and westbound lanes.
The highway was closed intermittently during the ensuing cleanup and finally reopened at approximately 9:10 a.m. Oct. 18.
No one was charged in connection with the incident, Crummett said.
Teen hurt in single-vehicle crash
Police said a Stafford County teen was hurt in a one-car crash on Sowego Road Oct. 15.
According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, the wreck happened at approximately 10:28 p.m.
The 17-year-old girl was driving a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta eastbound on Sowego Road when an oncoming vehicle allegedly forced her to move on to the right shoulder to avoid a collision. The teen then lost control of the vehicle due to the soft shoulder and over-corrected, police said.
The Volkswagen went off the left side of the road where it went over a ditch, causing it to overturn. It hit numerous trees before coming to rest on its roof.
The teen-age driver did not have any visible injuries but complained of pain and was transported to the hospital by EMS, according to the report.
The car sustained approximately $16,000 in damages.
Bicyclist hit by car
Ronald G. Jenkins, 50, of Bealeton, was reportedly injured when he was hit by a car Oct. 15.
According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, the accident happened at approximately 8:33 p.m. Jenkins was riding a bike north on Remington Road, when he was allegedly hit by a 1998 Chrysler Caravan driven by Rebecca June Shry, 69, of Bealeton. The impact sent Jenkins into a ditch, according to the report.
Jenkins, who was visibly injured, was transported to the hospital by EMS. Shry, who was not injured, was not charged in connection with the accident, police said.
Unsafe lane change alleged
A Bealeton man was charged with making an unsafe lane change after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident Oct. 14, police said.
According to a Fauquier County deputy's accident report, the wreck happened in the 11000 block of Marsh Road at approximately 6:24 a.m.
Johnny Dale Clark, 52, of Bealeton, was driving a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix when he allegedly pulled out in front of a 2001 Honda Accord driven by Jennifer Page Burton, 23, of Calverton. Burton had to pull to the right, but Clark also came to the right and sideswiped Burton's vehicle on the driver's side, police said.
Clark was reportedly uninjured, while Burton, who complained of pain, was transported to the hospital by EMS.
