Felony eluding charged

Fauquier County deputies reportedly charged a Waynesboro man with felony eluding of law enforcement, three counts of attempted malicious wounding and one count of reckless driving after he engaged them in a brief pursuit Nov. 18.

Maj. Paul Mercer of the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office said Dale John Garrigan, 40, was arrested on the charges. He attempted to flee because he was wanted on unspecified charges in Stafford and Waynesboro, Mercer said.

State police said Garrigan, who was driving a 2000 Dodge 1500 pickup truck was being pursued by law enforcement when he lost control of the vehicle on Elk Run Road. It went off the side of the road, hit an embankment and hit a tree, police said.

State police also charged him with reckless driving, according to Sgt. Franz Mahler. Garrigan was transported to the hospital by EMS, Mahler added.

He was then taken to the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center, where he was held without bond.


Fraud investigated

Fauquier County detectives are investigating an incident involving fraud that was reported to the Sheriff's Office last week.

Police records indicate someone from the 9500 block of Deer Hollow Lane reported fraud by impersonation Nov. 19. The estimated loss in the case is $3,690.57.


Arrest follows gun shot

A Front Royal man was charged with discharging a firearm in a public place and obstruction of justice Nov. 22.

Warrenton Police Chief Connie Novak said the charges stemmed from an incident that occurred at approximately 11 p.m. Police received several calls about shots being fired near Walker Drive and Blackwell Road. While speaking to people in the area, officers saw a man peering out of a sliding glass door of one of the apartments, Novak said. The officers went into the apartment and identified Nicholas Alan Teabo, 19, as the person who had fired a rifle outside, the chief added.

In addition to being charged with firing a weapon in public and obstruction of justice, Teabo was charged with underage possession of alcohol and illegal possession of a Schedule III substance.

Novak said Shane Michael, 19, of Warrenton was also in the apartment. He was charged with obstruction of justice and underage possession of alcohol.


DUI, driving without a license

Mark Flanagan, 22, of The Plains, was charged with DUI and driving without a license Nov. 22, police said.

Warrenton Police Chief Connie Novak said Flanagan's arrest stemmed from an incident on Main Street at approximately 3 p.m. Flanagan allegedly sideswiped a parked car on the south side of Main Street, then crashed head-on into a pickup truck parked on Main Street.

Officers noted that Flanagan's behavior appeared to be consistent with driving drunk, although he said he hadn't been drinking, Novak said. A blood test was administered resulting in a reading of .25, Novak added.

A 1998 Acura belonging to Flanagan's girlfriend was totaled, Novak said.


Felony DUI charged

A Fredericksburg man was charged with a felony count of DUI [3rd offense within 10 years] after he was stopped for speeding Nov. 20, police said.

Virginia State Police Sgt. Charlie Crummett of the Area 12 Office in Warrenton said Trooper Chris Carson stopped a green Plymouth Neon in the area of Meetze Road, U.S. 29 and the U.S. 17 spur at approximate 5:16 p.m. Carson made the stop because the vehicle was going 72 mph in a 55 mph zone, Crummett added.

As the result of an ensuing investigation, Matthew Paxson, 29, was charged with DUI and driving on a license which had been revoked due to a previous DUI offense, Crummett said. Paxson was also charged with speeding.


Manassas man charged with DUI

Police said a Manassas man was charged with DUI after he was involved in an accident on Lee Highway [U.S. 29] Nov. 21.

According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, the wreck happened in the 5100 block of Lee Highway at approximately 10:32 p.m. Christopher James Phillips, 47, was driving a 1999 Dodge Caravan when it went off the road to the right and hit a mailbox. The vehicle, which had a flat tire, came to rest in a parking lot where the mailbox landed on top of it, police said.

Phillips complained of pain but did not have any visible injuries, according to the report. He was not transported to the hospital by EMS.

Larcenies reported

The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office received two reports of larcenies Nov. 18-19. According to police records, the details are as follows:

Nov. 18, someone from the 7900 block of Leeds Manor Road, Marshall, reported the theft of a 4-ton heat pump and copper wiring from a building. The estimated loss is $3,500 and an investigation is ongoing.

  • Nov. 19, a caller from the 7400 block of Academic Avenue in Nokesville reported the theft of a cell phone. The estimated loss is $493.49.

Destruction of property reported

The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office received a report of damaged property Nov. 23.

According to police reports, someone from the 11700 block of Battle Ridge Drive in Remington reported that a storm door and exterior door had been damaged. The estimated loss in the case is $1,000 and an investigation is ongoing.
