Code Pink protests Blackwater
A small group of protesters demonstrating outside the Great Meadow Field Events Center in The Plains did not cause any significant disruptions at the Virginia Gold Cup races, police said.Approximately 12 members of an organization called CODEPINK were on hand to protest Blackwater USA's sponsorship of one of the races on May 3..
Dressed in pink, they marched down Old Tavern Road at approximately 10:30 a.m.
One group stopped at the intersection of Old Tavern Road and U.S. 17, where they waved signs in order to "educate" race-goers about Blackwater. Another group did the same thing near the gate eight entrance of the field events center.
CODEPINK is a "women-initiated grassroots peace and social justice movement."
Its member allege that Blackwater USA is a rogue mercenary organization whose members have committed numerous atrocities, including killing civilians in Iraq.
"Blackwater USA has no business here in civilian life as a sponsor of a race," said Liz Hourigan, one of the protesters. "We want to say shame on the Virginia Gold Cup for taking money [from them]."

It's comforting to know that we have our own mercenary army here in Fauquier. Who, exactly, controls Blackwater, and is it the civil or military courts who have jurisdiction over their activities?
