Norman scores five as Eagles wallop Culpeper, 17-12

While it is always good to get a victory on Senior Night, it is particularly sweet when most of the players on the team are seniors. That was the case Thursday night as the Liberty girls lacrosse team downed Culpeper, 17-12.

Liberty scored first on Christy Simmons' goal over a minute into the game.

From there, the half tilted heavily in Liberty’s favor. The Eagles (now 9-3 after a 18-3 loss to Loudoun Valley on Monday) controlled time of possession and spent most of their time on Culpeper’s side of the field.

Less than eight minutes in, Liberty moved out to a 5-1 lead thanks to a pair of goals from Kelci Riley, one by all-time leading scorer Katlyn Norman, and a forceful shot by Heather McInnis.

The only goal from the Devilettes would come from Taryn Bierhauzen, who finished with multiple goals. Another multi-goal scorer, Emily Aquilina, scored to cut the lead to 5-2.

Coming into the final minute of the half, the Eagles led 8-4 after Norman’s second and third goals, ands one by Heather Usiak.

The last 46 seconds of the half ended in a flourish, with Heather McInnis and Kensey Norman scoring to bookend another Bierhauzen goal. Despite the best efforts of Culpeper goalie Nicole Woodworth, who made several nice saves, the half ended with a 10-5 Liberty edge...
