Marshall This Week: Ruritan Club dance July 25
Hope that everyone is having a great week so far.
Ethel Gibson and family celebrated their 30th Fourth of July picnic this year. Over the years, the picnic tradition has expanded as all of the families have grown.
The first celebration was in 1978 with about 15 family members. This year, they had 124 in attendance. Family and friends join at the home in Rectortown for a day filled with lots of fun, food, and fireworks.
A live band, Southern Xcess, provided the music until the wee hours for the folks to dance and listen to. Ethel's sons Gary and Bobby play in the band, along with grandson R.J.
Chicken and barbecue was cooked all day by family friend Lee. On duty at the grill, cooking hot dogs and hamburgers was Rusty, the other Gibson brother. Everyone left with a full tummy and many renewed friendships. A great time was had by all.
Happy 30th celebration to the Gibson family and friends, and I hope you have many more to come.
On June 7, a gold bracelet was found in front of the State Farm Insurance Building. If you think it may be yours, contact Maureen Lawrence at (540) 364-2420. She would love to return it to the proper owner (a description of the bracelet will need to be given).
The Marshall Ruritan Club is having a Friday night dance on Friday, July 25. Doors will open at 8:30 p.m., and tickets will be sold at the door for $10 per person. Music will be provided by DJ. The occasion is BYOB. For questions, contact Connie at Cjcuts4u@aol.com
Old Salem Restaurant will be having karaoke from 6-9 p.m. July 26. Join them for some singing, spirits, and great food.

On Saturday, July 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Joan of Art on the Lawn, W.O.W. is having a Midsummer's Dream Art Show.
All kids are invited to create art using any method as long as it stays within the topic of Helping Others. Create a lemonade stand, design a house for someone who needs a home, design an animal shelter, or draw a picture helping someone human or animal. Anything goes and Joan of Art will be matting the work for free.
