Kids love Da Rock's game
“Anything is possible,” said Pat da Rock to a gym full of 150 kids of all ages.
That message, delivered last week at Falcon Basketball Camp at Fauquier High School, came from a wannabe college basketball player who never quit trying to make a living at hoops.
Guest speaker Pat Robinson, otherwise known as Pat da Rock, 24, is a wiry 6-foot-2 who is not one of the most dominating figures in professional basketball.
Not by a long shot.
However, on Tuesday, June 24, every eye in the gym was on him as he threw down several dunks, and put local players to shame.
Every year Fauquier High boys basketball coach Wayne Brizzi hosts a summer camp for kids kindergarten all the way up to rising sophomores. The camp helps kids build fundamental skills like dribbling and shooting using drills similar to those run by the players on the varsity team.
“It helps the kids gain a foundation in the game,” said coach Brizzi. He also added that “the camp helps parents know their kids are doing something constructive during the day, instead of just sitting in front of the TV for their entire summer.”
One thing is for certain, Pat da Rock knew how to get those kids fired up. As a guest motivational speaker, Robinson travels to camps around the country speaking to kids about success...See the Friday print edition of the Fauquier Weekend for the complete story.
