Mount Holly Baptist Church
Mount Holly Baptist Church is located at 6172 Sumerduck Rd. (Route 651), six miles from Remington and three miles from Sumerduck.
Originally named Providence Baptist Church, Mount Holly was organized in 1833 under the ministry of the Revs. Thorton Stringfellow and W.F. Broadus.
During the Civil War, the church building was used by both the Confederate and Union armies operating in the area. Mount Holly played an important role in the battles of Kelly's Ford that occurred in March and November 1863.
The church building was burned during the war. The current sanctuary was build in 1866, with a front vestibule and classrooms added in 1970. The Sunday School wing was built in 1965, and a picnic pavilion erected in 2004.
Mount Holly Baptist is a cooperating member of the Southern Baptist Convention and a charter member church of the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia. Mount Holly also contributes to several local missionary outreaches and projects.
The pastor of Mount Holly is Rev. Charles "Chaz" Campbell, who came to the church in 2003. He is a graduate of Montana Wilderness School of the Bible and Andersonville Theological Seminary.
Before being called to the pastorate, Campbell served 11 years with CBM Ministries of NW VA as the release time Bible teacher for Culpeper County. The pastor, his wife and three children live in the parsonage located near the church.
Regular Church services include Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and Sunday morning worship at 11 a.m. Sunday School classes are available for all ages. There is a Wednesday night prayer and Bible study for adults at 7 p.m. There are also classes for teens and children on Wednesday nights. Women's Missionary Union meets on the first Monday of the month and the men are involved with the men's prayer breakfast group held in area churches.
Some of the annual events include Vacation Bible School the last week of June, Egg Hunt and Devotional, Son Rise Service, annual holiday dinner, Valentine dinner, and several gospel sings. Homecoming is the third Sunday in August, followed by revival.
