Marshall: Celebrate 4th at Great Meadow

Is everyone ready for fireworks?

People everywhere are fascinated by fireworks, by the mystery of the lights in the night sky. Like nothing else, fireworks can excite, thrill and amaze us. But as glittering and amazing as fireworks can be, they can also be harmful if used improperly.

If you're planning on having fireworks at your home, there are many things to remember: Use fireworks under close adult supervision; do not aim propelled fireworks towards people, houses, cars or animals; dry grass and weeds can turn a day of pleasure into a really bad experience; and store fireworks in a cool, dry place away from any heat source.

If you're planning on going out for the celebration, maybe you'd like to visit the 2008 4th of July Celebration at Great Meadow. It will feature one of the most exciting shows in the 20-year history of the event. With performances by The Flying Circus, a concert presented by Bluemont, polo, model rockets, radio controlled giant-scale airplanes, and of course, the famous fireworks, the afternoon will be full of action.

To purchase 4th of July tickets, call Great Meadow, (540) 253-5001, or purchase tickets at one of the following: Giant Food, Oak Springs Plaza, Warrenton, (540) 347-7464; Marshall Hardware/Waters Appliance, Marshall, (540) 364-2944; Market Salamander, Middleburg, (540) 687-8011; The Corner Store, The Plains, (540) 253-5440; Rhodes Drug Store, Warrenton, (540) 347-4161; The Fauquier Times Democrat, Warrenton, (540) 347-4222; and Borders Book Store, Warrenton, (540) 347-9412

Also coming in July is the Roof-Raising Green House Tour, Saturday, July 12, to benefit Habitat for Humanity ($10 donation). Learn how to incorporate smart green strategies into your home, such as geothermal systems, recycled products, etc. Tour hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., 3582 Lea Road, Delaplane. Sponsored by Nash Construction, (540) 364-2515, ext. 101.

Don’t miss the Fauquier Fair, July 10-13. You can visit www.fauquierfair.com to find out more information about the fair.

The Marshall Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank all of the players and businesses who helped make its second golf tournament a great success. The day was perfect, and they hope all of the players had a great time. They're looking forward to next year.

We have two wedding anniversaries being celebrated. Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Patton celebrated their 69th anniversary on July 1, and Gene and Shirley Beall celebrated their 15th anniversary on June 26. Congratulations and happy anniversary.

Celebrating birthdays this week are Crystal Taylor, Beth Cooper, Bonnie McKay, Ray "Boo" Nalls, and Teri Phillips.

Continued prayers are asked for Mary Ann "Granny" Leach. Also also please pray for the Canard family.
