A preliminary court hearing in the case of former Fauquier County resident Caren Taylor Pressley Brown has been continued.
According to court records, Brown is facing two counts of capital murder-killing for hire; and two counts of capital murder-abduction.
The charges stem from an incident in which Brown, 47, allegedly gave an undercover Virginia State Police agent a $2,000 down payment to kill her ex-boyfriend and his wife.
She was supposed to appear in Williamsburg-James City General District Court at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. However, the matter was rescheduled, and her next court appearance is now slated for 10:30 a.m. Oct. 2.
Brown's attorney, Ashton Wray, could not be reached for comment.
The case file...
According to a criminal complaint filed in Williamsburg- James City County General District Court, Brown was arrested shortly before 6 p.m. Aug. 1.
Police made the arrest in James City County, where Brown met with the undercover agent. In addition to giving him the down payment,Brown also provided the agent — who was posing as a hit man — the couple's address, directions to their home in Warrenton and pictures of them, according to the complaint.
She allegedly told the agent she was angry over a "custody situation" with her son and asked that the hit be carried out by Sunday (Aug. 3).
Fauquier County Circuit Court records show that during the custody dispute, Brown tried to have her son's guardian ad litem removed from the case, citing improper conduct.
The court records show Brown also accused her son's father of assaulting the boy by hitting him in the eye.
In another, more recent development, county land records show that Brown's house in Casanova has gone into foreclosure.
Brown apparently bought the house on a one-acre lot for $425,000 in 2004. It is unknown exactly when she moved to the Richmond area.
