Sentence rendered in Social Security fraud case
U.S. District Court Judge Norman K. Moon on Monday sentenced Irven Jones to home confinement for six months and probation for two years.
Jones, the general manager of the Blue Ridge Christian Home in Bealeton, pled guilty in federal court to one count of theft of government property this spring.
The "information" or charge brought against him by federal prosecutors stemmed from an investigation which revealed that he had engaged in Social Security fraud by concealing his work activity in order to receive disability benefits from the Social Security Administration.
Jones received SSA disability benefits from February 2004 through September 2007. During that time, he worked as the general manager of the Blue Ridge Christian Home, which is a certified elderly assistance home.
Investigators found that Jones' wife also worked at the Blue Ridge Christian Home. At about the time Jones became eligible to receive the benefits, he began to conceal his salary through his wife's earnings, which doubled at the time.
The Social Security Administration lost about $97,000 through the fraud.
According to documents filed in U.S. District Court in Charlottesville, Moon also ordered Jones to pay a $9,000 fine and make restitution in the amount of $97,225.90.
