In Regard to Mr. Vick

In proverbs it says, “A righteous man has regard for the life of his animal, but even the compassion of the wicked is cruel.”
Without a doubt, Mr. Vick and those he associated with in this crime acted wickedly and without compassion for the animals they murdered.
All who care for, and love animals have every reason to hate Mr. Vick and the legion of others who are continuing these inhumane acts even today.
His and his associate’s actions against dogs are no different than the inhumane treatment of former slaves, prize fighters, gladiators, race horses, and other perceived sub human entities that have been the means to dirty money over the course of history. To many of us Mr. Vick himself, by his behavior, violated our trust in him, as a role model, as a hero. To many of us today, he is lower than the dogs he kicked, the dogs he destroyed.
The issue now is whether Mr. Vick should play football in the NFL again. I believe that if Mr. Vick were going to work for a fortune 500 company or any company, he would not be hired because of a felony conviction. It’s usually a pretty simple decision, unless there is an understanding employer.
Does the NFL have such a policy? Probably not. It’s all up to the commissioner and public opinion.
Well, as far as Mr. Vick is concerned, He has paid for his behavior. He has served his time. Now he wants to work. If we perceive the commissioner of the NFL as Caesar and all of us spectators, as Roman citizens, then do we give Mike the thumbs up or thumbs down?
For me, I'm afraid its thumbs up. It is time for compassion and mercy. If we don’t teach compassion now, by our actions, toward a man who has paid for his crime and taken responsibility for his actions, then what are we saying about ourselves---as role models—as a society? Do we keep kicking the dog-- do we destroy him-- or do we show mercy and let him live?
