Virginia Palmer-Fueschel makes many astute observations regarding the current state of trails and road markings throughout the Town of Warrenton and Fauquier County in her July 9 letter, "Re:cycling."

She might be interested to learn that not only the Warrenton Town Council, but also the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors have been aggressively planning improvements and expanding the town and county trail system.

The board of supervisors approved the Fauquier County Connection Plan in November 2007, and most recently, the town conducted two public meetings to discuss the Fauquier-Warrenton Bicycle and Pedestrian Loop Connection Master Plan, maps of which are available on the Fauquier County Web site.

The Fauquier County Pedestrian, Bicycle and Greenway Advisory Committee meets monthly to address many of the issues that bicyclists, runners, walkers and even equestrians encounter throughout Fauquier County, and how they can be improved.

The initial challenge to our elected officials has been met. Our challenge, as citizens, will be to support, fund and demand that these projects become a reality.

Chair
