School is not proper use of agricultural land

School is not proper use of agricultural land

As a citizen of Fauquier County, I want to address the Christian high school application by Donna Andes on Germantown Road in Midland.

We already have an elementary school a mile or so down the road from this location which already makes a huge impact on traffic on Germantown Road. Is that road able to handle the additional traffic? If not, then who is responsible for the repair and upkeep to said road?

Should the septic fail, then it would flow into Licking Run, which will eventually run directly into the lake at Crockett Park. Is this not a hazard to the people using that lake? All the adjoining properties would be affected by a malfunction of the septic system.

The existing well on that property will run dry in about four hours time, simply by running a slip n slide. Where is the huge volume of water going to come from on that property to sustain 16 gallons of water per person? Drawing this much water from the ground supply could very well endanger the supply of the surrounding neighbors.

What will this school do to the surrounding property values?

The surrounding area has always been agricultural, with farm vehicles moving hay, straw, etc., from one place to another. This additional traffic will make the road more hazardous to these slower-moving tractors and trucks. When did it change from agricultural to otherwise?

Germantown and Balls Mill Road have for many, many years been a quiet residential setting where friends and neighbors could enjoy the peace and quiet of country living. This school will drastically remove that serenity.

I would be very interested to know if any of the supervisors have taken any of these concerns into consideration.

Mrs. Andes handed the board 20 or so names of people who approve her proposal. Where are those people residing? Are they actual neighbors of Mrs. Andes? At the board meeting, several of her supporters were from Culpeper County; with the growing cost of gas, will these people actually drive round-trip twice daily to drop and pickup their children in a Fauquier County-based school?

All of these are concerns which should be addressed before allowing any school to open in any agricultural area of our county

I am not saying that a Christian school is not a good thing for the community. However, this particular location is not adequate to handle the infrastructure, water, septic, traffic, etc.
