The Best Of What Is Available

Back on the way up!

Wow! Many people view the headlines and see or listen quickly…time is always of the essence. While I, just like you, are rushing around running to work, going to the grocery store, stopping at the cleaners, rushing to our child’s sporting event, eating fast food, and just as quickly, running home, helping with the homework, going to sleep…and starting it all again in the morning.

Unfortunately, we miss the best of what is available. Whether we enjoy them or not, hopefully our jobs sustain us and help us to meet with our monetary needs. Although the money is seemingly primary, while at work we have friends and acquaintances with which we may share our thoughts and actions, talk about our families, and receive the benefit of completing our daily work tasks.

While at the grocery, if we would take a moment, we may see our neighbor and share stories and quality time. Looking around we might see mothers and fathers, and their youngsters smiling and giggling, generating endorphins that physically make us happy. While at the cleaners, although we may not know their names, we receive a gentle greeting, a smile and we may even smile back. Smiles make us happy thereby improving our outlook.

Sports, they are all great. Why, because our children are playing and we always enjoy watching our kids run and jump around for we know that it is good for them, and us. We also see others, the parents of our children’s teammates, and swap stories, get excited as they “score,” and may have a moment to absorb the good.

Fast food…well, we can enjoy the time spent with our families. Even though we may not be at home, we can take time to talk with our kids and that is always beneficial for them and ourselves. As I “mature,” I know the food is not important, but the time spent with our wives or kids can never be obtained again. If we miss it, it is gone, a point in time that can never be made up again.

Homework, it seems easier because we are an adult “playing” child games. Multiplication tables, addition or subtraction, or remembering 1492 or 1942, history seems easier than when we were in school.

So, let us please take the time to enjoy the best that is available…Lest we loose that too.
