I crave ice cream!!
One of the best things about pregnancy is the fact that you can pretty much eat whatever you want and not feel guilty.
I've got six weeks left until my due date (Sept. 4), and I intend to make the most of my time left eating my favorite thing on earth – ICE CREAM!!!
Ice cream is the only thing I've been "craving" for the past eight months. I often call it a "pregnancy craving," but technically I think it's just a regular craving because it's something I have always loved.
I like almost every kind, and gelato and frozen yogurt too! If it's cold and sweet, I'll eat it.
My absolute favorite flavor has got to be Haagen-Dazs Coffee Mocha Chip (so good!!!), but I am also pretty partial to Cold Stone Creamery and even Frostys at Wendy's... (OK I am getting a little off topic here and making myself VERY hungry...)
Back to the craving thing. I'm not sure if I really believe in the pregnancy craving phenomenon or if it's just a convenient excuse for us girls to pig out on the things we love.
My co-worker and co-mommy blogger, Lynn, said she craved barbecue while she was pregnant. (mmmmm...)
Elizabeth Somer, author of the book, Nutrition for a Healthy Pregnancy, says the extreme hormonal changes women go through during pregnancy can have a powerful impact on taste and smell. (This also helps explain why women going through menopause can also experience strong food cravings and aversions.) But the bottom line, says Somer, is that no one really knows for sure what causes cravings.
Some experts are skeptical about the idea that food cravings can be attributed simply to hormones. Ronald Chez, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of South Florida, says pregnancy has a similar effect on every woman's body, while cravings vary widely from person to person.
I did an unscientific pregnancy poll of some women on a pregnancy Web site and found most of them (60 percent) (like me) craved sweet things. (20 percent) craved salty. And a few (20 percent) said they had no cravings at all.
Others wrote in that they had strange cravings for things like pickles, sour candies, wonton soup, Asiago cheese bread, jalapenos and hot sauce, eggplant and finally Cheese Whiz sandwiches. (ick!)
I think I'll stick with the ice cream. :)

Haha.
I'll get gelato with you any time, Liz. Just say the word. ;-)

I too ate ice cream pretty much every day when I was pregnant. I felt as big as a house, anyway, what was the difference?
With my last prenancy, I craved rye bread, strawberries and liverwurst.
Never at any other time in my life did I ever want liverwurst.
I also found I couldn't eat chicken, just couldn't face it. Any other time in my life, I ate chicken almost every day.
The books never prepared me for the changes I went through while I was pregnant.
