Sheriff's Substation Begins to Take Shape

Local Residents are Pleased about the Speedy Progress of Substation Build Cycle

From my front yard, I can see the ongoing construction of the new sheriff’s substation.  Each morning as I pull out from my driveway and head off to work, I can hear the hammering of the tradesmen, humming of machines and the incredible noise of the cement mixers.  But the whirlwind of activity does not bother me at all.  I look forward to the speedy completion of this facility, and I am sure all of Sterling Park feels the same.  Almost every night I take a 3 mile stroll around the Park and end my walk passing the construction site.  My observations reflect a fast moving build cycle, and I feel assured that this station will reduce the number of violent crimes in my community.

The $7.9 million sheriff's substation on East Frederick Drive adjacent to Rolling Ridge Elementary in Sterling is starting to take shape as the rear wall of the building and second floor mezzanine loom above my tree line.  All plumbing and electrical infrastructure in the foundation have been completed along with the curb and gutter work.  Masons have been working since April on wall construction, and scaffolding for bricklayers is all over the building site.  The un-poured ceiling of the processing area and processing cells are being prepped for the second floor mezzanine.  To the east side of the property, the security wall is nearing completion, and the brickwork near the front main entrance has begun.  A detached generator pen and two sally port exits are now easily recognizable.

Captain Ricky Frye informed the Substation Advisory Board, via email, that construction is progressing well despite several rainy weather days.  He said he believed “the contractor is doing an outstanding job.”  The state of the art 18,000-square-foot facility will serve as the eastern Loudoun headquarters for the sheriff's office, with deputies and administration working out of the facility.  The substation will include a community room which will provide a much needed venue for community meetings that are easily accessible from Sterling Boulevard.

We continue to experience a fast growing and diverse population in our suburban community. It is in our best interest that residents of Sterling continue to communicate with sheriff’s deputies and promote a positive relationship with our local law enforcement.  In this way, we ensure a strong bond is established between citizens and the county employees whose foremost responsibility is to maintain the community security we all cherish.

At the Sterling construction site, either Captain Ricky Frye or Lieutenant Brian Harpster is usually on the premises and working out of the lower trailer.  If you have any questions about the Sterling Substation build status or schedule milestones, please email Captain Frye @ Ricky.Frye@loudoun.gov or call 703-737-8079.
