Purcellville Baptist traces its ancestry to the Ketoctin Baptist Church founded in 1751.  That Church was influential during Revolutionary periods in establishing the cherished principles of religious liberty.

Purcellville Baptist Church Statement of Faith

About God:
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He eternally exists in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

Genesis 1:1, 26-27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14

About Jesus Christ:
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of kings, and Lord of lords.

Matthew 1:22, 23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; John 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14, 15; 1 Corinthians 15:3, 4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14, 15; Titus 2:13

About the Holy Spirit:
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men and women aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily.

2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13; John14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; 5:18; Galatians 5:25

The Good News:

With the ever looming bad news about the economy and the rising figures on national unemployment, I find it refreshing to contact the Churches if I need to hear the “good news.”

Living in Eastern Loudoun, I know Pastor David Janney and the Purcellville Baptist Church’s (PBC) strong local ministries. PBC’s “Shepherd's Hands” ministry supports the Good Shepherd The CrossAlliance's (GSA) Mary’s House of Hope and Hebron shelters, in Purcellville and Lucketts respectively. As GSA vice chair, I can attest to the importance of a non-profit receiving strong Church participation in assisting those people living in need.

In light of this, it is a pleasure to share some more good news with you. As many in the Western Loudoun community are well aware, PBC is a powerful congregation with outreach to the people that live in all of Loudoun and throughout Northern Virginia. One of the many ways PBC demonstrates how they care is through their local Community Missions Outreach. This ministry includes many programs; however PBC’s Shepherd's Hands ministry has been recently recognized in a big way.

Several years ago, a member of the congregation was staying at the Winchester Salvation Army Homeless Shelter. After he passed away, his family wanted to honor his memory by continuing to provide meals and encouragement to the men, women and children that were resident at the shelter. In 2006, a group of PBC members took a good, old-fashioned, home-cooked meal to the shelters on a Sunday evening and that tradition has continued now for almost 3 years.

Do you remember the days when you went to Grandma’s for Sunday dinner? Well, the atmosphere of a feeling of family is what it's like for the 60 men, women and children living at the shelter get connectedand the families that serve from PBC. Once a month a group of singles, families, children and teens arrive at the shelter to serve a meal, play guitar and sing songs, play games with the children and socialize with the adults. On many occasions, there are crafts for the kids and gifts for them at Christmas.  Over the summer there are barbeques and it is always a great time for fellowship.

Well, something of this magnitude takes plenty of faith, determination and effort to organize and plan each event down to the many minute details to ensure a successful event.  Brian Becker from Round Hill, Virginia and a member of PBC for almost 7 years has been the driving force for keeping this component of Shepherd's Hands ministry active and thriving.

Several members of the PBC were invited to the Salvation Army’s yearly awards ceremony at the Winchester Hospital Medical Center Conference Room on April 23rd. The Salvation Army recognized all of the volunteers and donors that supported their programs in Winchester during 2008.  Approximately 200 people attended the 3 hour ceremony. The awards were presented at the event by Major Dan Turner, the Corps Officer in Charge. Elizabeth Minor, the Mayor of Winchester was also in attendance.

Brian Becker accepted the “Partnership of the Year” award on behalf of the Purcellville Baptist Church based on all of the work the congregation had performed for the Salvation Army at their Homeless Shelter in Winchester in 2008.  Pat Hughes, the residential director for the Salvation Army Homeless Shelter presented the award to Brian Becker. This is one of the Salvation Army’s most highly recognized awards within their volunteer program. The Salvation Army specifically mentioned the PBC effort to build a 16’ x 20’ shed for additional food storage; the purchase of two propane grills for summer cookouts; the Christmas gifts for the children, mothers and residents and for all of the wonderful meals and fellowship that PBC provided on a monthly basis.  Approximately 100 PBC adults and youth volunteers participated in making these activities possible.

It was an incredible evening with many volunteers being recognized for their good work to support and help others less fortunate.  Oscar Roan was the guest speaker and his wife Linda provided special music. Oscar was a professional NFL player for the Cleveland Browns from 1975-1979. After retiring from the pros he went into full-time Christian service, working as Area Director with the Dallas Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Since 1980, Oscar, his wife Linda, and their sons Mario and Quincy have traveled throughout the United States co-laboring with such ministries as The Fred Jordan Mission, Mike Barber Prison Ministries, FCA and The Salvation Army. It is great to see that even in tough economic times like we are currently experiencing, God’s wonderful people sacrifice and give of their time and resources to reach out and help to serve those in need.
