MISSION OF INTERCESSORS FOR AMERICA (IFA): Uniting Believers in Effective Prayer and Fasting for America.
The town of Purcellville has a strong Church presence and God’s people within these local congregations are sowing the seeds for a great Church revival in Northern Virginia. Take a drive along Main Street and observe the abundance of scripture displayed in signs on the front 
lawns of Churches lining the route. This town practices the subtle virtues of faith, hope and love. Another powerful prayer ministry, Intercessors for America, is also headquartered here in Purcellville. I have previously written about Breakthrough Prayer Ministry headquartered in Lincoln and the Purcellville Transformation meetings taking place at the railroad station in this blog. Intercessor for America’s (IFA) ministry is based on 1 Tim 2:1-4 which states, “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. As you make your request, plead for God’s mercy on all of them, and give thanks. Pray this way for kings and all others who are in authority, so we can live in peace and quietness, in godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, for He wants everyone to be saved and understand the truth.” New Living Translation
Founded in 1973, Intercessors for America (IFA) is a trans-denominational, multigenerational ministry serving the Church of Jesus Christ by encouraging effective prayer and fasting for the Church, our nation, and their leaders. IFA builds working relationships with local churches and their leaders, partners with and complements other prayer ministries and like-minded organizations, adheres to biblical principles and godly conduct in all that they do, and stays modest in regards to structure, facilities and programs.
IFA's programs include: First Friday Prayer and Fasting; Church Pray! Washington Watch Alerts, and YIFA - Youth Interceding for America.
IFA does not focus on one certain area of prayer. The focus can range from prayer for our President and government, Native Americans, Washington Alerts and peace in Jerusalem. They also have special events in different cities that one can attend and pray as a corporate. Also there is information available on the website to pray for Israel and the Middle East, terrorism, Homeland Security, Science and Art Culture and many other prayers of interest.
Five primary scriptures continue to undergird the corporate prayer efforts of Intercessors for America:
2 Chronicles 7.14 calls on God's people to repent, pray, turn from wicked ways with the promise that God will respond with healing for the nation;
Ezekiel 22:29-31 declares that God, in His great mercy, is looking for even one who will "stand in the gap" and help avert judgment,
1 Timothy 2:14 establishes a clear priority to pray for all men to be saved and for those in authority to establish good government as a means of producing a godly society and a propagation of the gospel;
2 Corinthians 10:3A describes our weapons of warfare as not being carnal, but divinely powerful to the destruction of demonic strongholds;
Matthew 16:18 assures us that the gates of Hell will not prevail against the Church as it labors to preach the gospel and establish Christ's kingdom across America and to the ends of the earth.
FIRST FRIDAY PRAYER & FASTING
IFA follows in the pattern of America's founding churches whose members formed "prayer and reformation societies" to help effect revival in the Church and bring about reformation to correct "disorders in the land." A monthly First Friday newsletter, now published systematically for over twenty years, helps unite and focus tens of thousands of U.S. believers, prayer groups and 5,000 churches in monthly First Friday prayer and fasting.
CHURCH PRAY!
Launched in 1990, this corporate prayer service to local churches provides either pre-printed or camera-ready Sunday bulletin inserts which outline a weekly prayer focus and include short teachings on prayer. A survey has shown that 250,000 or more believers are now "praying in agreement" during weekend worship and prayer services in congregations across the U.S.
WASHINGTON WATCH ALERTS
This weekly prayer alert is compiled and faxed or sent via e-mail each Wednesday to hundreds of contacts across the U.S. It outlines critical issues in the city of Washington, DC, in the White House, Congress and Supreme Court, and monitors foreign fronts and emergency matters nationwide.
YIFA - YOUTH INTERCEDING FOR AMERICA
College and high school age youth have been joining the ranks of IFA through outreaches to various Christian youth conferences, from the growing home school movement, and from partnering with the National Network of Youth Ministries. IFA will be happy to supply bulk quantities of the First Friday newsletter to any student, campus club, school or group of young people upon request.

With the national elections over, this is an excellent time to pray for unity in the Christian Church and for corporations and small businesses to continue to provide good jobs for our citizens. Pray that each of us does our best in our employment and that God would bless our efforts as we are striving to do His will. Pray our local elected officials and the Obama Administration would heed to God's wisdom in their legislation, judgments, and activities.
I believe Christian society in its entirety has yet to comprehend the importance prayer has in releasing the will of God. We need to educate believers with the fact that one has to pray for change in this world by committing all things to prayer. Jesus Christ always went to pray to the Father for directions and answers. If all Christians would faithfully pray for at least one opportunity that they have a passion to make happen, oh how the earth would be an empowering place to live.
